I have been involved in larp and re-enactment for well over 20 years now. When I went to my first larp event (Treasure Trap at Peckforton castle) the monsters' weapons were covered in dye so the refs could see where you had been hit. At one winter event in Kent it was so cold the dye froze on the weapons so it was like being hit by a solid lump of ice: happy days!
